I know you must get a million asks about your amazing Dalek Christmas tree but I saw it on tumblr and after a month or two finally persuaded my parents to let me turn our Christmas tree this year into a Dalek:D is there any chance that you would be able to give me a few tips as to how to go about it please? Thanks so much! x x
The only questions I got were from UK tabloids so you’re in the small group that have asked about it. If your tree is not up already, you will want to shape the top into a dome. For mine, we lost a good foot off the top using hedge trimmers - just sort of round it out. Everything else can be grabbed from a hardware store. The plunger is a sink plunger on a piece of plastic lawn sprinkler pipe, spraypainted black. The eye i got a lamp cord with bulb socket (pic in link)
and ran that through some ABS plastic drainpipe and coupler.
The raygun is a paint roller spraypainted silver, inserted into a tissue box.
to secure all the parts that hang off and away from the tree, I ran fishing line to the ceiling. so the raygun, plunger and eye all have fishing line supporting it otherwise it would all fall off the tree.
the silver panel parts in the tree are wide christmas ribbon held on with clips.
the lights are just run in up-down fashion along the bottom third of the tree. I had little star ears on mine, but they were pretty unnoticeable.
Any other questions in particular just ask - good luck and happy christmas
Amy Coyne and I are the creators of the Dalek Christmas Tree that has taken over the internet this past week. It has brought us such joy to see it shared across the Whoniverse. It appeared on the Dr Who FB page this morning as part of a contest. No idea it would go from a joke in our living room in Chico, CA to EVERYWHERE. Merry Christmas, all! #HappyWholidays
